PENISTONE 2008 NEEDS YOU!!! - 25.11.07

Penistone Show 2008 is going to be bigger and better than ever.  But at the moment two of the sections are without secretaries - Lurchers and Terriers, and Home and Handicraft.  We are looking for volunteers - more than one for each section if possible, to spread the load.

Section secretaries are responsible for all the entries to the classes in that section.  The Lurchers and Terriers enter on the day, but for Home and Handicraft there's a fair amount of paperwork in the weeks before the show, sending out schedules and taking entries.  There is then a busy show day making sure the displays are at their best and the judging runs smoothly.  It can be hard work but it's also a great deal of fun.

As a member of the committee, a section secretary is invited to committee meetings on the third Tuesday of each month (except December) at the St. John's Community Centre in Penistone, at 8pm.  The meetings are always interesting and lively, with help and advice whenever it's required.

Health and Safety Officer

Our last Health and Safety Officer did a great job, sorting out all the rules and regulations, so we hope his replacement will have quite an easy transition.  We are looking for a volunteer who can take charge of all health and safety matters in relation to the show.  They will have to undertake risk assessments, keep the committee updated with any new legislation or procedures and keep in close touch with all the relevant agencies.

If you think you might like to get involved, why not send us an email to andrew-lowe@thurlstone.wanadoo.co.uk or call Peter Read on 0114 2887816.  We'd love to tell you a bit more about what's required and if you do decide to join in the fun, we're sure you won't regret it.

Kangaroo Gymnastic Display Team - 9.9.07

It has been reported in the press that one of the gymnastic display team members had broke his leg. We are happy to announce that after a visit to the hospital  he had only badly sprained his ankle. We all hope for a speedy recovery for him.

Press Release – 31.8.07

Following the unexpected early removal of foot and mouth restrictions, the 2007 Penistone Show on Saturday, 8th September will now feature classes for cattle and sheep.  Sadly the news came too late for pig and goat classes, which will not be held this year.

Since we had already filled the gap left by livestock with a host of other attractions, the show this year will be non-stop entertainment.  Visitors can be certain of a fabulous day out.
